Decorative planters throughout Fair Lawn’s Broadway and River Road Districts have been weeded and replanted as part of a Spring Clean Up & Green Up effort to help keep local streetscapes attractive and welcoming. Paid for by the business and commercial property owners of the Broadway Improvement Corporation (BIC) and the River Road Improvement Corporation (RRIC), the work is part of a proactive approach to managing quality of life issues that keeps the districts well-maintained with definite “curb appeal.”

“Whether you live or work in the River Road District, or visit for shopping, dining and services, we want everyone to feel welcome,” noted Robert Landzettel, RRIC President. “That’s why we provide these supplemental services in support of the borough’s municipal efforts so our local streetscape really stands out and definesRiver RoadasFair Lawn’s friendly neighborhood business district.”

David Buchsbaum, the districts’ operations manager, recently supervised a team from Native Fields Landscaping in Landing, as they worked near the intersection ofRiver RoadandFair Lawn Avenueand on Broadway.  In addition to cleaning up planters and sidewalks, the crew also worked on the landscaping atKellerParkin the River Road District, an oasis of green dedicated to Bill Keller, a former Columbia Bank employee, an original member of the RRIC and a dedicated community volunteer.

Rick Kellerman, Vice President and Manager of Columbia Bank’sRiver Roadbranch office, appreciated the extra attention at the park honoring Keller, and believes the district’s efforts matchColumbia’s commitment to the local community.

Jack Daniels, owner of Jack Daniels Motors on Broadway, and Bob Beshlian, BIC President, joined the landscaping team as they worked on planters near Daniels’ dealership. Daniels believes the landscaping work helps make Broadway a more pedestrian friendly area for the people who live, work and visitWarrenPointSchoolacross from his dealership and the many businesses located nearby.

“Making Broadway a safer and more desirable place to shop, dine and do business was the goal of the business improvement district. Broadway has many medical offices, schools and retail stores and we want people to appreciate the area’s welcoming atmosphere as much as Broadway’s convenience and improved pedestrian safety through the enhancements we have made in cooperation with borough and county officials,” Beshlian concluded.
